Sat. Dec. 16, 2017 | 7-9pm | All ages welcome | Creative networking meet & greet

There are so many social media interactions that we think it would be beneficial to put faces to the names we see every day! We are planning a meet & greet for creatives in the Boise and surrounding area around the holiday season. This event will be a free event and is open to the public.

We will have color-coded stickers so everyone knows what industry others are in. Ex: Photographers will have green stickers, models with purple stickers, HMUA with red stickers, etc. This can help start conversation with who you may like to collaborate or get to know.

There is an optional $10 white elephant gift exchange that will take place at 8:30pm. All ages welcome. Beer, wine, soft drinks, and snacks will be available.

The event will take place at Studio Boise Photogarphy Center's art gallery floor. There is currently an abstract photography & sculpture exhibit to enjoy during the event.

This is a casual event meant to make new connections and put face to names. Feel free to invite people to the event, bring a friend, or your dog.

HIDDEN MIND - Abstract Photography & Sculptures by David Whitaker

studio boise gallery exhibit

This photography exhibit explores the dream-like state of the Hidden Mind. Each image was collected and edited with the idea to illustrate moments that were seen, yet un-seeable while capturing the moment. David Whitaker uses dramatic tone edits and color masking to alter the perception of the document. This is purposeful as an allusion to the way our own recollection and dreams alter our memories of specific events or scenes. David’s abstract images stand as aesthetic expressions of the unconscious perception of what we remember as “seen”.

David’s sculpture work is exhibited as a contrast to the ethereal nature of the photography on display. While each sculpture is abstract in form, the geometric patterns and presence of the metal help ground the space where it is displayed. While not directly representative of the Hidden Mind concept for the exhibition, the sculpture provides a visual anchor point to come back to after drifting with the photography’s abstract flow. David encourages the viewer to use the sculpture a visual cleanse, meant to hold gravity within the gallery and give the show a three-dimensional presence.

Light and Shadow. Color and Contrast. Mass and the Void. This is the Hidden Mind.

– This exhibit is the first time these prints and scultpures are being exhibited.
